PATH purchased 45 PA-3 cars from Hawker-Siddeley in 1972. These cars are all "A" cars with cabs and are numbered from 724–769.
These cars were overhauled in the mid-1980s by Morrison Knudsen along with the PA-1 and PA-2 cars.
Cars #745 and #750 were part of a train left at the World Trade Center station on 2001-09-11. These cars were recovered and are stored out-of-service, stripped of useful parts.
Cars #726, #754, #761, #765, and #768 are in use as work service cars.
