The ALP-45DP is New Jersey Transit's new dual-mode locomotive. The first units entered revenue service in June 2012 on the Montclair-Boonton line, operating between Lake Hopatcong and Hoboken. Reports are that the units run in electric mode between Hoboken and Montclair State University, where they switch to diesel mode for the remainder of the trip.

When service was restored to the Gladstone Line in November 2012 after Hurricane Sandy, ALP-45DP units were used on Gladstone-Hoboken trains due to a continuing power outage in Hoboken that left the terminal without power for the catenary.
